Guests arriving at the outdoor courtyard for the men's annual dinner

The Gathering

Every year, the group gathers. A tradition built on brotherhood — the kind that doesn't announce itself, that doesn't need to.

By the time people arrive, the ease is already there. Someone picks up mid-sentence where they left off months ago. Laughter finds the room before the food does. This is the annual dinner. And it begins, as it always does, outside.

The courtyard was dressed for the occasion without being overdressed for it. String lights overhead. Brick walls lit warm from below. Orange mums spilling from window boxes. Wicker chairs and a velvet loveseat arranged around a low wooden table — and sitting on it, a hand-lettered sign: U & ME.

No one thought much of it at first.

"The ease was already there before anyone said a word."

This is what I come for — not the décor, not the lighting alone, but the moment when a group of people who genuinely like each other fills a space. The conversations that overlap. The introductions that don't feel like introductions. The way someone across the room catches another's eye and just laughs, no explanation needed.

Guests relaxing in the lounge area during cocktail hour

The cocktail hour wound through the courtyard and into the venue's indoor lounge — a different light, warmer and closer, where smaller conversations broke off from the crowd. By the time dinner was called, no one was in a hurry to leave this part of the night.

Somewhere in this crowd, one person had been carrying something all evening. Patient, present, waiting. The table was next — and so was everything that came after it.

Private celebrations, milestone dinners, gatherings built on years of trust — these are the evenings I was made for.
